Band Trip FAQ’s

Money Other
Chaperones Contact Information

As people write me with questions, I will post them on the web.

1. How many 8th graders have signed up?

While nearly 50 have registered for band, only about 17 have placed deposits to go on the trip.  Nearly 90% of the high school  band has already signed up.

2. When is the next time you will go to Florida?

While we will almost certainly go to Florida again, this may be the only time we go to perform in the Gator Bowl.  With a trip cost of nearly $125, 000, it becomes very difficult to raise that money each year or even every two years.  Our only trip goal is that each student has the ability to go to Florida once every FOUR years, other than that there is no definite trip pattern.  Even though everyone tries to figure one out :)

Money

How does trip fundraising work?  Please the fundraising fact sheet.  Some fundraisers are credit fundraisers, which means that the credits earned go directly into their own account.  Others will be put toward the total cost of the trip.  Students will be notified ahead of whether or not it is a credit fundraiser.

When can we use the credits? Money earned from credits can be used at anytime.  You just have to indicate what you want to do.

What happens to the non-credit fundraiser money?  We will apply this portion of the fundraiser money to the total cost of the trip.  This will happen during the October and November months giving us the maximum amount of time to raise money and donations.

How do I know how many credits I have?  A copy is posted in the bandroom.  You may email me at ryan.zellner@tasd.net, call 836-8260 or contact Kathy Migliori at 378-3784

Why do we have to make payments? The band is required to pay deposits for the trip.  For example, we have already paid a $7000 initial deposit toward to the Gator Bowl.  Then we pay off the trip with 50% remainder deposits in September and November.  This represents only the Gator Bowl portion of the trip.  Deposits for transportation and purchasing of tickets are all done at separate times over the course of March to November.  Everything must be paid for in advance.

Who do we make the checks out to and where do they go? Checks are made out to Tiger Band and are to be mailed to Kathy Migliori, RR 1 Box 371A Post Hill Drive, Falls, PA 18615

What about spending money?

Two meals are included per day plus all tickets. They need money for extra food and spending money.

Chaperones

Who can chaperone?  Any parent may chaperone the trip.  Responsibilities are assigned before we go on the trip.  There are no limitations to the number of people that can go.

How much do they pay?  Full cost

What do they get? Same trip as students.

Itinerary

Will the itinerary change?  Absolutely, the itinerary is a framework.  We alter itinerary based on availability, cost, weather and other factors.  As we get closer to the kick off date, the itinerary will become more specific.

Other

We have relatives in Florida and we want to stay with them.   There are basically two packages on the trip.  The first is the lodging and gator bowl activities (BGA) and the second covers the transportation and tickets (TravelWorld).  Cost for the first package is $450 and the second $400.  Nothing can be separated from the package, like just purchasing the Gator Bowl Ticket.

How can I stay informed about what is going on?  I do mailings when we can, but unfortunately it gets expensive and they generally have a low response, such as the Region housing information.  The best way is by going to our website at www.tasdmusic.org Just remember to refresh the page hold control and click refresh.  I also plan on starting a gator bowl newsletter and page which you can receive via email.

I plan on paying the trip off without needing the fundraiser.  Some people can pay off the trip without worrying about fundraising.  However when you help out in some way whether fundraising or at other times, it helps lower the cost for everyone and it also helps provide things that we use all the time like water at the football games.

Why should I help out?  Every little bit helps.  For example, housing students for Region Chorus (March 15-18th)  While the Gator Bowl and Region Chorus doesn’t seem connected it is, the faster the students get housed the sooner I can begin working on additional trip details like donations and grants.

Okay, I want to help but…  There are always a lot of little things that need to be done.  If you could help out in any way at any time it is greatly appreciated.  Booster meetings are a great way to start.  They are the first Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the high school band room.  If you can’t attend that’s fine, just knowing you are willing to help out is a huge plus.  Check the website and newsletter and stay informed.  Everything you do helps out everyone.
