Drum Majors: Drum majors are chosen through an application and audition process. The students have three practices to learn the basic qualities of being a drum major and a good leader. Then they are asked to audition in front of a panel of 3-4 judges (usually staff members). The judges then select the two most qualified candidates with the highest score being the head drum major. These selections are not based on whether or not they were a drum major the year before or their grade level
Section Leaders: This process is continually being adapted to produce the best possible section leaders. The interested candidate is asked to fill out an application. The application is rated not only on its answers, but also on neatness and completion. If there application is accepted, they continue on to an interview. The interview is done by the director in conjunction with the head drum major. The interview and application again are reassessed based on a rubrics scale. Once the list has been narrowed down, the candidates will then work with a select group of instruments. Candidates will again be judged by a panel (staff members as well as the head drum major) with a rubrics scale. The sectional leader appointments will be announced at the spring concert. |
